Youth Group Raises Money for Relay for Life More than 20 members of the St. Luke Lutheran Youth Group will walk to raise money for cancer research in the Sterling Heights Relay for Life event being held from 10 a.m., June 13 to 10 a.m. June 14 at Sterling Heights High School. In the coming weeks, the youth will be raising money for Relay for Life at fundraising events around town. “The Youth Group is always looking for fun and exciting ways to give back to the community. This is the biggest event the Youth Group has ever participated in. When I mentioned it at a meeting, the students were really excited about helping others and fighting cancer,” said Krista Teschler, 21, Clinton Township resident and Youth Group board member. The students in the Youth Group Relay for Life team range from sixth to ninth grade. The team has a goal to raise $1,500. To do that, they will hold a series of fundraising events. All day on Monday, May 18, the St. Luke Youth Group team will receive 20-percent of all sales from Buffalo Wild Wings in Mt. Clemens for customers that bring in a special flyer. The flyers can be obtained from St. Luke Lutheran Church or any Youth Group member participating in Relay for Life. The Youth Group is also pre-selling tickets for a dinner at Mongolian Barbecue in Roseville from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3. Tickets are $7.50 for children 12 and under, $15 for a one-bowl dinner and $17 for an unlimited dinner. The ticket includes the create-your-own stir fry, soup, salad and soft drinks. The St. Luke Youth Group will receive a portion of the tips collected during the two-hour dinner. Starting Sunday, May 3, the St. Luke Youth Group members participating
in the Relay for Life will be in the church narthex after the 7:45 a.m.,
10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. services to answer any questions. They will also
be selling $1 “feet” to help take steps toward curing cancer,
as well as $10 luminaria bags that will be placed around the track during
Relay for Life. |
