Teacher Recognized for 25 Years of Service
Kurt Schmidt, eighth grade teacher at St. Luke Lutheran School,
was recently honored for 25 years of service as a Lutheran school teacher.
On Wednesday, April 22, the school held a special chapel service for
Schmidt, which included a blessing from Pastor Bert Thompson and presentation
of a plaque from Dr. Bruce Braun, superintendent of schools for the
Michigan District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
The entire St. Luke congregation thanked God for Schmidt during a service
on Sunday, April 26. Schmidt received God's blessing from Pastor Steve
Bagnall followed by a small reception sponsored by the Board of Christian
Education.
Schmidt serves as the eighth grade homeroom teacher and also teaches
history and literature, as well as a Latin elective at the school. He
also is in charge of the school yearbook.
Schmidt said his favorite thing about St. Luke is "My students,
especially when I see them living their faith, instead of just learning
about it or talking about it."
Prior to arriving at St. Luke in 2007, Schmidt served God at Immanuel
in Alexandria, Virginia, St. John in Fraser, Michigan, St. Peter's in Eastpointe,
Michigan and Lutheran High South in Houston, Texas. Schmidt graduated
from Concordia Nebraska in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science in Education.
